WHAT IS CREATIVE VISUALIZATION?

What is creative visualization? Creative visualization is the process of harnessing the natural power of your imagination to create what you want in your life. While this powerful technique focuses and directs the imagination, it is much more than wishful thinking. It is a mental process whereby you establish a goal and then imagine the process of attaining that particular goal. It is positive thinking taken to a higher level.

Every mental rehearsal of an event through visualization provides a memory of sorts?aa memory of success?aand a feeling of accomplishment that can help make that "idealized" performance a reality. Research has shown that the use of imagery provides an effective proactive approach for most skills, often providing us with a learning and performance advantage. In fact, actors, athletes and even successful business men and women use creative visualization in their work everyday.

Creative visualization alone is not enough to succeed however, hard work and dedication are still needed in order to make your goal a reality. The key to helping yourself achieve the desired results is by making it happen in your mind first. In other words, creative visualization allows you to take advantage of your innate ability to imagine an experience to help you focus on what you want to achieve.

How Does Creative Visualization Work?

How does creative visualization work? To start with, the mind does not know the difference between imagined or real external events. This is why when we see a picture of chocolate cake in a magazine or on a menu, we are able to devour it with our eyes. We imagine how it will taste, how it will smell, and how its texture will feel on our tongues. We can even feel the weight of the fork in our hands as we lift a bite to our mouths. Our saliva glands and appetite respond, and lo and behold, we order it for dessert, or we may even find ourselves baking a chocolate cake that evening.

Thus our bodies respond naturally to sensory images?asights, sounds, feel and taste as well as strong emotions, real or imagined. Visualization effectively engages unconscious and preconscious processes to assist with conscious goals, boosting a persons ability and motivation to achieve a desired goal.

In addition to supplying sensory images that will help us achieve our goals, visualization requires that we be in a state of relaxed focus. Research has shown that brainwave activity and biochemistry shift, and moods and cognition change when we are in this state of altered consciousness.

More over, in a state of relaxed focus, we are capable of more rapid and intense healing, growth, learning and performance. We are even more creative and intuitive.

Numerous psychological studies have shown that we feel better about ourselves and perform better when we have a sense of mastery over the environment. In other words, having a sense of being in control, in and of itself, can help us feel better and do better. Therefore, because visualization is an internal process with the individual deciding when, where, and how it is to be applied, it has the effect of helping us feel as if we are in charge. In this matter, sensory images, a relaxed state of focus, and a sense of being in control all work together to help us achieve whatever we desire.

Most problems on the golf course can be overcome using mental training. Your mind controls your body, not the other way around, which means most problems in golf are due to the mind simply being untrained to perform correctly.

How And Why They Work So Well

Imagine you are swimming in a swimming pool with your friends. They swim 15 rounds, something you have never done before. As you desire the respect of your friends, you want to show them that you can make it too. You start swimming and all the way you tell yourself in your mind: "I can do it, I can do it?-". In your mind you see yourself completing the 15 rounds. What are you actually doing? You are using positive affirmations.

Positive affirmations are positive sentences repeated many times in order to impress the subconscious mind and trigger it into action. A positive sentence is constructed, about a state of affairs we desire to happen, and is repeated many times during the day. It has to be repeated with conviction, attention and feelings.

We often repeat sentences about things we do not want to happen and consequently enter into undesirable situations. Affirmations work both ways, to build and to destroy. They are a kind of neutral power. It is the way we use them that determines whether they are going to bring good or bad results.

Repeating affirmations positively at times during the day, and then thinking negatively, neutralizes the efforts of the positive affirmations. Refuse to think negatively; otherwise your positive affirmations will be useless.

Affirmations work like creative visualization. The words repeated build a scene in the mind. It may not be clear-cut, but yet it is a picture held in the mind. The words help to focus on the intention and the object or situation you want to create. These sentences repeated often, cause the subconscious mind to accept the idea, and the subconscious influences your thoughts, behavior and reactions. The conscious mind, the mind you think with, can influence the subconscious mind by using repetitions, and that is why affirmations can change your attitude and behavior.

Affirmations also influence the people around you, circumstances and events. The often-repeated affirmations, by influencing the subconscious mind cause you to behave, think and act in accordance with the suggestions implemented in your mind. It's like giving instructions to the computer. As mentioned above, affirmations are similar to creative visualization. When a thought is projected into the atmosphere, it influences people, events and circumstances connected with that specific thought.

We are using affirmations all the time, such as when we tell ourselves that we can't do something, or that we are too lazy, or we are going to fail. The subconscious mind tries to find the way to materialize the failure expected. It is the same principle at work when we tell ourselves that we can do it, that we are going to succeed.
